Venetian cuisine is essentially fish-based, and embraces the fish of the north Adriatic. There are some very good trattorias, for traditional Venetian cuisine, dotted around the city, as well as plenty of great places for coffee & snacks in Venice. Take advantage whenever you want to rest from all that walking and sightseeing.
For visitors who want to sample the taste of everyday Venice, is recommended then cichetti (bar snacks) similar to the Spanish tapas. To eat cichetti e l’ombra, “a snack and a glass of wine”, is a Venetian tradition. These snacks can make a good choice and they are best tried in a traditional bar (bacaro) or inn (osteria).
There are a few types of eating places to choose from:
  • Bar - The place to have an espresso and all it’s variations.
  • Osteria – has a limited menu but often offers the best-value meals.
  • Trattoria - Less formal and cheaper than a ristorante and normally where local specialities are served.
  • Ristorante - The most formal type of eating place. The order of courses is antipasto, pasta or soup, main course with salad or vegetables, dessert and coffee.
There isn´t a typical veneci meal but a grat variety:
pasticci (lasagna) risi e bisi" rice with peas talian food
